MilO Trip Log

What's new

Every version of MilO and what changed in it, newest first. The same list is in the app, under Settings, Version.

The newest released version is the latest download on GitHub. To update, install it over the one you have: your trips stay.

Version 0.3.1 · Not released yet

  • New
Ten more sounds to choose from

MilO has twelve built-in sounds where it had two. Beside the chirp and the chime there are a seatbelt chime, a key fob, a turn signal, a counter bell, a coin and a sonar ping, made for the moment MilO connects to the truck, and a horn tap, an engine rev, a burnout and a race start, made for the moment the trip is under way. Either sound can use any of the twelve, or a sound you add from your phone. Every one has a Play button, so you can hear it before you choose it. Nothing changes until you choose: after this update the connect sound is still the chirp and the trip-start sound the chime, and a sound of your own that is in use stays in use.

  • Improved
Sounds take one tile in Settings

Settings has one short tile, Sounds, where it had two long ones. It has a row for the connect sound and a row for the trip-start sound, each with the name of the sound in use and its switch. Press a row to open that sound's own screen: there you choose the sound, play any of them, add a sound from your phone, or remove one you added. The switch at the end of a row still silences that sound and keeps your choice.

  • New
A run across the screen when a report is sent

When you come back from your email app and answer "I sent it", MilO's mascot runs in from the left along the foot of the Report screen, runs on the spot for two seconds with his shoes smoking, then brakes with his brake lights on and slides out to the right. Wheels whirr while he runs on the spot, and tyres squeal as he slides. The two sounds play like the phone's own screen sounds: a phone on silent or on vibrate stays silent. They are also silent when both sounds are switched off in Settings. He does not run after "Mark as sent". Everything under him can be pressed while he is there, and he is gone at once if you leave the screen.

  • Improved
    MilO stays upright

MilO no longer turns on its side when you turn the phone. Every screen stays upright. On a tablet or an unfolded phone Android still turns it.

  • New
Google Play may ask for a review

In a copy of MilO installed from Google Play, Google Play may show its own review card over MilO at three moments: once MilO holds 5 trips it recorded, once it holds 100, and after you answer "I sent it" for a report. MilO asks for the card once for each of the three, and leaves 30 days between two requests. It never asks while a trip is being recorded or a vehicle is connected. Google Play decides whether the card appears, and MilO is not told whether it did or what you wrote. A copy installed from the website asks for nothing.

  • New
A party after a year of MilO

One year after your first recorded trip, and on that date every year after, MilO's mascot holds a small party. Each trip that starts that day begins with the pop of a party popper in place of its usual first sound, wherever the phone is. If MilO is open on Home when the trip starts, the mascot fades in in a party cap, brings a popper out from behind his back and fires it, and confetti comes down round him; if not, he does it the next time you open MilO that day. Everything under him can be pressed while he is there. The pop has no switch of its own: it is silent when both sounds are switched off in Settings.

  • New
    A second greeting: the moonwalk

MilO's mascot has a second way to say hello. In a hat, he moonwalks in from the right, skids to a stop in the middle with his brake lights on, thrusts his hips, spins once and moonwalks off to the left. He takes turns with the wave: one time you open MilO he waves, the next he moonwalks. After this update the moonwalk comes first. As before, everything under him can be pressed while he is there.

  • Improved
The wave, from one side of the screen to the other

The mascot's wave has a new course. He walks in from the left, stops in the middle with his brake lights on, turns to you and waves, turns away to the right and walks on off the screen; the lights go out as he takes his first step. He used to come in from the right and fade away where he stood. He still takes turns with the moonwalk, and everything under him can be pressed while he is there.

  • Fixed
The odometer after a reading typed before driving off

A reading typed in the truck before you drive off no longer loses that drive. MilO starts the trip when the phone connects, so the reading was typed during the trip, and the whole trip was left out of the odometer. Now what you drive after the reading is added. If your odometer is short from a reading typed before this version, type the dashboard's figure once more.

  • New
    Email support

Settings has a new tile, Email support. It opens your email app with a message to support@milotriplog.top, with MilO's version and your phone's model filled in at the end. MilO is one person's project: answers come when he has time.

  • Improved
    A smaller download

MilO is less than a third of the size it was to download: the file from the website is 12 MB where it was 40 MB, and the copy from Google Play shrinks in the same way. Code that MilO never used is no longer packed in. Nothing in the app works differently.

  • Improved
A lower tile while a trip is recorded

On Home, the green tile of a trip being recorded is about half as high, so today's trips start higher on the screen. It shows Recording, when the trip started with its minutes under that, the distance, and a dark square that ends the trip. The square has the stop sign and no words. The tile no longer says where the trip started; the Trips screen still does.

  • New
Today or the month, with one press

While a trip is recorded, press the Today card on Home to see the month's business distance, its share and its dollars. Press again for today. Two small dots show which side is up, and every new trip starts with Today.

  • Improved
The odometer turns as you drive

Home shows the odometer like the one on a dashboard: each digit of the whole kilometres in its own cell. During a trip in a paired vehicle the last cell is green and its digit turns slowly on to the next as you drive, one digit for every kilometre. It counts from the whole number you typed in Settings, so the last digit can change at another moment than the truck's own. When no trip is running, Home shows the same number as Settings.

Version 0.3.0 · 9 October 2026

  • Fixed
    The phone's date set ahead

MilO keeps its own time. Setting the phone's date a day ahead for a few seconds no longer brings "No trip recorded today" after a day of trips, and no longer cuts a trip short or dates it tomorrow. The Log gets a line when MilO sees the date change.

  • New
    MilO waves hello

When you open MilO, its mascot walks in along the bottom of the screen, turns to you and waves. He is in nobody's way: everything under him can be pressed while he is there.

  • Improved
Android Auto: everything on one screen

MilO's screen in the car no longer scrolls. It shows the trip, then today's and the month's business distance and the month's dollars, with the button under them.

  • New
    Dollars on Home's month tile

Under the month's business distance, Home shows what it comes to at your rate, such as $289. The rate is the one in Settings, which the widget uses too.

  • Improved
A GPS point every 2 seconds

During a trip MilO now reads the truck's position every 2 seconds. It was every 5. The recorded route follows bends more closely.

  • Improved
The odometer counts up as you drive

During a trip in a paired vehicle, the odometer on Home and in Settings adds the distance as it is driven. Until now the whole trip was added when it ended.

  • Improved
A lower truck tile on Home

The tile for the truck's connection takes less room. The vehicle's name is on its first line, its sentences are shorter, and the drawing of the phone and the truck is smaller. It moves as before.

Version 0.2.0 · 9 October 2026

  • New
    The odometer on Home

Home shows each vehicle's odometer: your last reading in Settings, plus every trip since.

  • Improved
All of today's trips on Home

Home lists every finished trip of today, the newest at the top, in place of the last trip alone. Its top line no longer says Home.

  • Improved
    Location, explained first

Before Android asks you to allow location all the time, MilO says what it collects, why, and that it stays on this phone.

  • Improved
    The battery setting

Setup's battery button opens Android's list of apps. Show all apps, choose MilO, then "Don't optimise".

  • Improved
    Buttons that stay in view

On the welcome page and on Setup during the first start, the button to go on stays at the bottom of the screen while you scroll.

Version 0.1.0 · 9 October 2026

  • New
    What's new

Settings shows the version of MilO on the phone. Tap it for this list: every version and what changed in it. After an update it opens once by itself.

  • New
    Trips start by themselves

When the phone connects to your truck's Bluetooth, a trip starts and MilO records the drive with GPS, even with the app closed. It ends when the truck disconnects, or once the truck has stood still for 10 minutes.

  • New
    Several vehicles

Pair each work vehicle in Setup, and any of them starts a trip. Each trip records which vehicle it was in, each vehicle has its own odometer, and the report names the vehicle when the month had more than one.

  • New
    Business or Personal

Trips in your work hours are saved as Business, the others as Personal or not at all. Any trip can be changed, edited or added by hand on the Trips screen.

  • New
    A label for each trip

Press a trip, then Label, and pick one of the labels you used before or type a new one. The label used where the trip ended, within 200 m, is listed first and already chosen. The report prints it as the trip's purpose.

  • New
    The monthly report

A PDF and a CSV of the month's Business trips, with the odometer at the start and the end, handed to your email app addressed to your accountant. A reminder on the 1st, until it is sent.

  • New
Android Auto and the home-screen widget

The trip on the car's screen and on a widget, each with a Start or End button. The widget also shows this month's and this year's Business distance in dollars, for reference.

  • New
    Two sounds of your choosing

One when the truck connects, one when it drives off. Each can be MilO's own sound or an audio file from the phone.

  • New
    Kilometres or miles

Every screen, the widget and the report in the unit you choose. Trips are stored the same either way.

  • New
    Your data stays yours

No account and no server. Export all your data to one file and import it again, and Android's own backup keeps a copy in your Google account.

  • New
    Buy me a coffee

A tile above Version in Settings opens MilO's page on Buy Me a Coffee in the browser, for anyone who would like to say thanks. MilO stays free, with no ads.
